My name is Jim Jensen and I live in Fort Collins with my wife Teresa, as empty nesters. I was first introduced to the weimaraner breed in the early 1990s when a friend of mine had one. In 2006, my little family of five grew a bit bigger when we adopted our weimy, Chance. He was the absolute best, instilling a love of the breed, and animals in general, with every member of my family. We watched him grow from an inquisitive puppy to a rambunctious teen, to a vigilant adult, and finally into a mellow senior. We lost him December 2019 but not before he met Freya, a blue weimy that our oldest daughter adopted with her husband. Soon after Chance’s passing, Kilo, a grey weimy joined his sister (different litters but the same parents), making them our first grandpups. Since then my other two adult children have adopted a mix breed (chow, anatolian shepherd, and lab) canine named Ace, and a wonderful cat named Yazzy. My wife and I have decided to hold off on adopting until we are closer to retirement, meaning we have to spoil these grandpups and grandcat as much as possible. I have been in Colorado Springs since 1998. I love all animals big and small to include fish. When I was a kid living in England, I recall saving up money for gerbils, volunteering to take care of a variety of animals over the summer break from school. I was very fortunate to have parents who loved animals too. Floyd my first Weimaraner brought me to the world of rescue. Although he was not a rescue, he inspired my love of the breed and so of course I looked for all ways possible to help Weims. Floyd lived to the lovely age of 15 and brought me the most joy ever. I currently have all rescues – Mocha a weim/silver lab, 2 cats, and 3 parakeets. I have been a part of the rescue world since 2010 and a founding member of Grey Ghost Weimaraner Rescue. I work with a great team of volunteers and mentors who educate and impress me with their love of animals. I have met so many wonderful people and discovered the world of transport. It is unbelievable how selfless people are, they volunteer and do transport and give their hearts to rescue animals. I did General Practice for 5 years before becoming a pathologist. I worked in academia and diagnostic laboratories for over 20 years including University of IL- Champaign/Urbana and CSU (Colorado State University). More recently I have shifted career focus to work in the Pharmaceutical industry and new drug development. As a veterinarian, I have loved animals of all types for most of my life. Weims have been part of that love since a teenager when I chose a Weimaraner as my first pet. Since then Weims +/- other dogs have been integral parts of my life, whether as a comfort companion, running partner or partner on my farm. All my Weims (and other dogs) after the first have been adopted rescue dogs. Each one was unique and has precious unique memories that I cherish. My current Weim-mix is precious, goofy and my family. He was adopted through Grey Ghost Weimaraner Rescue who I have been involved with for several years. Growing up an "army brat" I lived in some exotic places and got to learn first hand about many exciting species of birds, butterflies, insects and mammals. I used to sneak little white mice home in my purse from science class so they wouldn't be fed to the boa constrictors! I have been involved in caring for many birds of prey, including burrowing owls that I was responsible for with a raptor education group! I have always been the one in my household that would come home with a stray or lost animal or a hurt bird. I would nurse them back to health & either release them back to the wild if appropriate or find them homes. My husband and I have had weimaraners since 1998 and fell in love with the breed because of one special dog named Sterling! In 2005, I thought it was time for Sterling to have a buddy and started looking online for another weimie. I found a rescue and started volunteering. This started a new way to help animals that needed someone to care. I held many different positions over the years and gave my heart to working with these dogs. Sadly, Sterling passed away in 2008 . . . way too young! We have adopted many of our fosters over the years and now have a 16 year old weimaraner, a 10 year old weimaraner, a 6 1/2 year old weimy / german shorthair pointer mix and a very bossy 10 lb Italian Greyhound named Mini Cooper. There are numerous finches, canaries & parakeets that add beautiful sounds to our home and a Betta fish. I am Jenny Piazza. I was brought to the weimaraner breed 11 years ago when a student teacher I was supervising needed to find a home for two weim puppies he had at his house. We adopted Scratch and Vogue who immediately stole our hearts. The more we learned about this breed while raising these two girls, the more we fell in love with weimaraners. In 2013, I found myself an empty nester. I contacted a few weiamaraner rescues and donated or volunteered. In 2014-16, I fostered around 13 weimaraners in need. With each foster situation, I learned more and more about this wonderful breed. Like many of our members, I have been drawn to animals all my life. By the time I was 10, I was advocating for animal treatment. I worked for a veterinarian in my 20’s while teaching middle school science in inner city Oklahoma City. My friends and family know me as the woman with dogs. I come by rescue work naturally, and thank the members of Grey Ghost Weimaraner Rescue for all they have taught me throughout my work with them.
